Writing Comps, Clever cousins, and fave writers/poets.

Am entering into a writing competition. The topic of the competition is motherhood: "Things Left Unsaid". I am a mother of one, who is now a beautiful twenty-something young lady. I shall let you know if I win! It's the first competition I've entered, and the prize is a place in a writing retreat somewhere in the English countryside.

A bit of biographical info is that my cousin (who I haven't seen in years) is a recently published new writer too. She has written a couple of novels. The first is called "The Love Detective". I think it's funny how members of a family can have the same compulsion to be creative in some way, be it acting, writing, or singing.

PS. A little bit about literary Influences:

1. What book am I currently reading?

I am reading "Adventures in Democracy" by Erica Benner. She is a political philosopher, and her new book looks at different political structures objectively.

2. What are my favorite books of all time?

I like books that make you laugh or cry. I loved Jane Eyre growing up, And in my twenties, I discovered Trainspotting. Can you imagine a more polarized choice, Bronte v Irvine Welsh. That's diverse! And my favourite poets are WH Auden and Phillip Larkin. More about them later. Bye for Now...

Emma
